Fashion Illustrator Clarine Crisologo on Interning with Fari Hara

For the last two years, Clarine Crisologo has been interning at Fari Hara as a fashion illustrator while attending Ryerson University for fashion design in Toronto. Clarine learned about the brand through an email she received from school and leaped on the opportunity to work in custom menswear. Now that her internship is coming to an end, we wanted to learn more about Clarine’s inspirations and goals for the upcoming year.

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO PURSUE A CAREER IN FASHION DESIGN?

Ever since I was little, I loved to sketch and colour. As I grew older, I started to experiment and use my clothes as another creative outlet. I was definitely influenced by my parents who also love fashion. When I got to high school, I found myself wanting to dress a certain way but I couldn’t find the pieces I imagined. So, I started to sketch what I had created in my head, and that led to me sewing my own clothes. I fell in love with designing and my older brother started to notice how much I loved making clothing so he recommended I pursue fashion at Ryerson University.

WHO ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVOURITE CANADIAN DESIGNERS?

One of my favourite Canadian designers is Alberta’s very own, Errolson Hugh. He is the co-founder of ACRONYM and designer of Nike’s ACG line. I’m really inspired by his futuristic designs and smart tech wear and gear. Another Canadian designer I look up to is S.P. Badu. I really believe in his vision for a genderless closet, and I admire his techy streetwear designs.

WHAT WERE THE HIGHLIGHTS OF WORKING ALONGSIDE FARI HARA?

For me, the biggest highlight has been everything I learned over the past two years. Suits for men have many rules but those rules are just a foundation to build upon. With Fari Hara, it’s about understanding those rules but having fun. Before I started working with Fari Hara, I used to think that suits were mainly for men but Embodiment definitely changed my view on that. I loved that there was a segment dedicated to styling women in menswear. It’s 2019 and labels shouldn’t define the clothing we wear.

WHAT ARE YOUR PLANS NOW THAT YOU HAVE GRADUATED SCHOOL?

My plan is to apply the knowledge I’ve gained from school and my internship with Fari Hara and find new ways to expand my knowledge. I really want to focus on areas that I am unfamiliar with which includes luxury fashion, more menswear, and accessories. I also want to travel and immerse myself in different surroundings and study different fashion cultures.
